Pineapple Festival organised in Mumbai

The two-day Mizoram Pineapple Festival was kicked off at Jio World Drive, Mumbai, on Saturday, celebrating the unique flavours and culture of Mizoram. Organised by Josie’s Kitchen under the aegis of Mizoram’s horticulture department, the event showcases a diverse array of Mizo cultural dances, handloom and handicraft products, organic crops, and a vibrant fashion show.

Inaugurating the event, Mizoram’s horticulture department additional director L. Lalhmingmawia stated that the festival aims to boost the presence of Mizoram-grown pineapples in Indian markets. “We have procured 10 quintals of pineapples grown in Sialsuk and surrounding villages in eastern Mizoram, specifically for this event,” he announced.

The festival also featured captivating performances by Mizo singers and a fashion show spotlighting both Mizoram and Mumbai models adorned in creations by Mizo designers, which drew considerable attention. Throughout the event, pineapples were available in various forms, includingfresh fruit, juice, and cocktails. Organisers expressed their goal of popularising the distinctive taste of Mizoram-grown pineapples in Mumbai, the heart of Bollywood, which they believe will greatly benefit Mizoram’s farmers.

In addition to pineapples, the festival showcased a variety of organic produce from Mizoram, such as dragonfruit, Mizo chilli, passionfruit, anthurium flowers, grape wine, ginger, and turmeric, attracting large crowds throughout the day.
